In the years to come, the markets for natural gas, both in Germany and in Europe in general, will see significant changes. The harmonisation of gas quality standards within the EU, a globally changing supply situation and an increasing integration of gases from renewable sources (e.g. biogas or power-to-gas) will lead to a gas grid in which end users will be confronted with greater variations in gas quality. While this evolution of German and European gas grids offers a number of economical and ecological advantages, it may pose a challenge to end users, especially in the industrial sector.
