The electrical and thermal losses occurring during the operation of induction plants are mostly dissipated by cooling water. The design and maintenance of such cooling devices are a major factor in ensuring the operational safety and the economy of induction plant. The current cooling systems are described below. Particular attention is paid to the advances made in recent times. These firstly refer to the effectiveness of the cooling devices, and secondly to the use of the waste heat occurring in the cooling water.
