A series of changes to the regulatory framework for the German gas market has resulted in new requirements for the transmission and further processing of measured data relevant to billing. A project was therefore initiated to convert measured data retrieval at the gas pressure regulating and metering stations of Open Grid Europe and migrate from analogue to IP technology. The aim is to enhance the quality and quantity of data retrieval while maintaining the proven system of remote meter reading. The project started in 2010 and envisages a two-year period for modifying data retrieval at Open Grid Europe for 1,200 measuring points in line with the concept described. More than half way into the project, there are already a number of positive results to report.
