For more than 25 years, the Danish natural gas markets have been based on gas production from the Danish North Sea gas fields. The gas quality has been uniform, homogeneous from the same source of supply characterised by a high wobbe index. Due to decline in North Sea production, the Danish market would be opened for new gas supplies. Though the variation in gas quality has been significantly increased with the introduction of a new supply, the Danish experience has shown that large gas quality variations can be handled in a geographical area with a diverse population of appliances and consumers and in a safe way.
