The four myths about LNG – getting the facts right

Georg EhrmannThe Maritime LNG Platform, a coalition of more than 80 national and international maritime members and partners, campaigns for the establishment of LNG as an alternative fuel for the shipping sector so that the sector can fulfil current and future emissions limits. Therefore, the Platform co-operates with the German Federal Transport Ministry to develop an LNG strategy for Germany: first successes have already been achieved. In addition, the Platform works to counter four myths that question the usefulness of LNG. The Platform argues that the use of LNG is a well-developed technology with high safety standards. As a result, the risks are manageable and any existing fears are unfounded. The Platform also demonstrates that the supply of LNG in Germany is secure and that the consideration of LNG as part of the German energy transition is reasonable.
