In 2010 GDF SUEZ CRIGEN completed a study about the smell of gas. Small focus groups constructed an ID card of the smell of gas by working with 10 unpleasant smells, including THT, TBM and Gasodor S-Free®. The three product’s smells and two other “bad” smells were then presented to 2,000 people (400 per smell) to evaluate their reaction to the smell and its association to gas. The results detailed in the paper bring a new perspective about the use of these gas odorants when compared with previous studies once the hedonistic bias is taken out.
