The article gives an introduction on the legal background, the procedures for establishing network development plans (NDP) of the German gas transmission system, and major subjects discussed in NDPs. The section on procedures describes the involvement of market participants in the course of consultations. From previous NDPs topics, main discussions on covering demands of underground gas storages and gas-fired power plants through the use of specially designed capacity products, as well as expected capacity needs of distribution network operators are reflected. Against the background of declining Dutch and German gas production, the article emphasizes the switchover from L to H gas.
