Monitoring of methane emissions from biogas plants

Profound knowledge about the greenhouse gas emissions from biogas plants and the subsequent development of emission mitigation strategies are a major key point for the acceptance of the biogas technology. Nevertheless, not only ecological, but also for economic and safety issues, a reliable emission source detection and the determination of the emission rate is very important. The article reviews the variety of different methane emission sources on a biogas plant and the methods to determine the emission rate from these sources. That allows the deduction of different mitigation strategies.
