The development and improvement of high-strength steel grades up to grade X100 with good toughness and sour service properties as well as welding performance becomes more and more important due to enhanced material and design requirements. Based on the results of laboratory trials Vallourec & Mannesmann Tubes has performed an industrial production of seamless quenched and tempered pipes with wall thicknesses up to 20 mm in grade X100. These pipes exhibited good toughness and sour service properties. The results of the first welding tests were very promising, showing a good weldability with satisfying mechanical properties in the weld.
