A research project initiated by the DVGW (German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water) has been examining the first-generation PE-HD gas and water pipes that were laid for domestic supply and distribution during the period from 1960 until 1976/77. Central to the project was the question concerning the extent to which the predicted service life of 50 years at that time can be confirmed and whether the pipes may possibly be used for an even longer period of service.
