The European Commission is carrying out an eco-design study into industrial and laboratory furnaces and ovens. Eco-design studies are carried out as required by the Eco-design of Energy Related Products Direct with more than 40 studies started or completed and 13 EU Regulations imposed on manufacturers as a result. All Eco-design studies follow the same task structure that is designed to obtain the data required by the Commission to determine what action to take. The current study has established that energy consumption in the use phase has the largest environmental impact and that this sector consumes about 1.400 TWh of energy per year although there does appear to be potential for energy savings.
