GlasFLOX® burner - 3 years in operation

A recuperative heating glass melting furnace (Unit melter) was fitted first time in 2006 with a new burner system, which operates at the principle of flameless oxidation. Since that time the so called GlasFLOX burner, manufactured by the Company Hotwork International GmbH, worked without any problems. The quality of the glass, which is used to produce energy saving lamps as well as the energy consumption, remains of the same level. Through the application of the GlasFLOX burners the NOx emissions could be reduced by about 45 %. Thus the company Osram GmbH could keep the limits of TA Luft 2002, which are already valid since October last year, without secondary measures. The following contribution is a short overview about the development steps and the occurring problems. Furthermore the operating experiences with the burners, gained in the last two years, are presented.
