A new approach to the modelling of European gas transmission network flows is described. The approach involves the development of a modular system, containing a network database and a flow analysis tool, integrated onto a numerical platform. The research, under the joint project name “European Gas flow” (EGF) is being carried out within the framework of scientific and technical collaboration between OAO Gazprom (Russia) and N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie (The Netherlands). The goal is to develop a model that can be helpful in identifying and solving operational gas flow issues referring to gas transport within European countries.
