The first part of this article examines the requirements made on automated pigging systems, while the sec-ond part continues with a description of the most important valves, fittings and automation components re-quired to fulfill the demands of the chemicals industry. The article concludes by showing the diverse tasks that can be solved by piggable systems, illustrated by means of two examples, namely a piggable heat-exchanger and a piggable piping system.
