Main concerns with modernizing or constructing new thermal processing installations are lower NOx and CO2 emissions. This article describes the development of a concept to reduce nitrogen emissions by changing the combustion process at the burners with high air preheating and process temperatures above 1,200 °C for side wall and flat flame burners for roof and side wall installation. Significant NOx reduction possibilities and burners developments based on simulations and test results are here presented.
