Aspects of butt welding with PE large pipes

This article summarizes the experiences made with the heating element butt welding of PE large pipes (larger than diam. 1,400 mm) in a number of international projects. Whether in Germany, Peru or India, suitable conditions for welding are established, often using different measures. The article provides a detailed consideration of the process steps necessitating new solutions in comparison to the welding of pipes of medium diameters. Welders and planners can learn about a range of new solutions with which we have already worked successfully. This provides assistance with future projects.
