The basic principle of the accumulation of working gas in underground gas storage facilities, necessary to balance seasonal fluctuations in gas demand and guarantee reliability and flexibility of supply, is gas injection using a compressor. A characteristic feature of compression at existing underground storage facilities is the huge variation in performance and the degree of compression of the gas to be injected, as well as the uneven daily injection associated with the vagaries of the transport system. In order to increase the injection rate when using compressors and reduce energy use, state-of-the-art energy-efficient technologies are being used at underground storage facilities. We seek to present in greater detail below a project involving technical cooperation between VNG Gasspeicher GmbH and OOO Gazprom VNII-GAZ, which, in its preparation and implementation, stands as an example of joint international effort.
