Roller hearth furnaces are subdivided into roller hearth furnaces with and without a controlled atmosphere. While controlled-atmosphere roller hearth furnaces are mainly used for heat treatment, the main application of roller hearth furnaces without a controlled atmosphere is reheating. Roller hearth furnaces with controlled atmospheres for various applications are presented below. Typical applications for furnaces of this type include the heat treatment of heavy plates, tubes, bars, wire and steel strip made from carbon and stainless steels, also including electrical steel strip (GO & NGO).
